Apprenticeships in Enterprise

Information for Employers

It could be you!

We are now looking for entrepreneurial organisations to register their interest to become an employer of a Fife Enterprise Apprentice as part of the pilot program.

Working in partnership with the Fife Culture of Enterprise, this opportunity is for employers based in Fife who would welcome the chance to take on a young person to help to develop their business. You may be able to secure part funding (eligibility criteria apply) towards the wage cost via Fife Youth Jobs Contract.

You can download the promotional leaflet here

We are looking for up to 19 Fife employers to take part in this exciting new pilot. So far 4 young people have successfully completed this qualification in Fife – case study.

What is it?

This qualification is unique in that a young person can be employed in a role to develop new products and/or services to help grow an existing business. You can find out more about the NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Enterprising Skills in a Business Environment here

Unlike traditional apprenticeships the Enterprise Apprenticeship is not sector specific. You can be an Enterprise Apprentice in almost any sector as the skills they will gain can be applied to many areas of work. It is more about a way of working rather than the work itself, it is about creating a culture of enterprise which encourages innovation, problem solving and creative thinking. So you can help to develop your apprentice into a young professional who can think for themselves rather than waiting to be told what to do.

You might be surprised at what a young person can do. With support, a young person can have an amazing positive impact on your business, bringing in new ideas and viewpoints, for example, helping you to access opportunities through social media.

How does it work?

You will employ your young person directly – we recommend a 12 month fixed term contract – we would expect most apprentices to complete their qualification within 8-12 months. If by the end of the year you have a young professional who is adding value to your business then it is up to you what happens next.

You and your team will provide the on the job training needed for your apprentice to become competent within your work area. The Career Studio will provide all the support and assessment needed for your apprentice to complete their qualification. There may also be some additional ‘group’ activities and training provided as part of the Enterprise Academy approach through Opportunities Fife.

What now?

Are you able to provide a young person with opportunities to show their own initiative to develop enterprising solutions?

If you think you might be interested in this exciting new opportunity please register here and we will be in touch. Remember there are only places for 19 Fife employers within this pilot program.
